Gustavo Hamer has returned to Coventry City, with the Sky Blues confirming the midfielder’s comeback in a major move for the club.

The return brings Hamer back to the club where he became one of the most popular players of Coventry City’s modern era. The midfielder originally joined the Sky Blues from Dutch side PEC Zwolle in 2020 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team.

Hamer played a major role as Coventry progressed from a newly promoted Championship side into promotion contenders. His technical ability, long-range shooting and aggressive midfield play made him a firm favourite with supporters.

One of the defining moments of his first spell came during the 2022/23 Championship play-offs. Hamer scored the winning goal away at Middlesbrough in the semi-final second leg, sending Coventry to Wembley and within one match of a return to the Premier League.

He also scored for City in the play-off final against Luton Town before the Sky Blues were eventually beaten on penalties.

Hamer left Coventry for Sheffield United in August 2023, ending his first spell with the club after three seasons. His return now represents a significant and hugely popular addition for Coventry City.

For supporters who watched Hamer become such an important part of the side, the prospect of seeing him back in Sky Blue will be one of the biggest stories of the summer.
