Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term contract.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with the Sky Blues and played all 46 league games as Coventry won promotion to the Premier League. He kept 17 clean sheets during the Championship campaign and won the division’s Golden Glove.

The deal was confirmed on 4 August. Reports have put the initial fee at £22.5 million, potentially rising to £30 million with add-ons, making it a club-record transfer.

Rushworth becomes part of Frank Lampard’s preparations for Coventry’s first top-flight campaign in 25 years. The goalkeeper had previously spent loan spells with Walsall, Lincoln City, Swansea City and Hull City after joining Brighton in 2019.

Coventry have been active in strengthening the squad ahead of the new season, with the permanent return of a player who already knows the club providing continuity in a key position.
