Coventry City are preparing for their first Premier League season in 25 years after completing a remarkable climb back to the top flight.
Frank Lampard’s side return as Championship champions, completing a journey that has taken the club from League Two, ground-sharing away from Coventry and years of uncertainty back to the Premier League.
The challenge now changes from winning promotion to staying among England’s elite. Coventry have already moved to strengthen the squad during the summer, including bringing goalkeeper Carl Rushworth back permanently after his successful loan spell.
Attacking midfielder Jack Rudoni and striker Haji Wright are among the players expected to have important roles. Wright finished last season as the club’s leading scorer with 18 goals.
Coventry’s opening Premier League fixture is scheduled away to Arsenal on Friday 21 August, giving the Sky Blues an immediate test against the reigning champions.
For supporters who remember Coventry’s relegation from the Premier League in 2001, the new season marks the end of a 25-year wait. Survival will be difficult, but simply returning to this stage represents one of the biggest chapters in the club’s recent history.
