The cordon is in place at the canal access point off the Bull Ring, at Boot Bridge (bridge 20), close to the junction with College Street and a short distance from where the canal passes under the A444 at Chilvers Rise.
It is understood to be an ongoing incident. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed, and it is not known whether anyone has been injured.
It is also unclear how long the cordon is expected to remain in place, or whether access to the towpath is affected elsewhere along this stretch of the canal.
