Fridge and freezer collections have been temporarily suspended across Nuneaton and Bedworth because of an ongoing national problem affecting the disposal of the appliances.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council says it can no longer collect fridges and freezers through its bulky waste service for bookings made on or after August 5.
Collections that were booked before August 5 will still be honoured, while the council says all other bulky waste collections are continuing as normal.
The authority usually collects unwanted fridges and freezers from homes before temporarily storing them at its Nuneaton depot. They are then taken away by a recycling provider contracted by Warwickshire County Council.
However, the borough council says Warwickshire County Council has advised that those collections cannot currently continue because of a national shortage of disposal capacity.
The issue has also led to the suspension of fridge and freezer disposal at Warwickshire household waste recycling centres, including Judkins in Nuneaton.
Residents are being asked to keep hold of appliances for the time being where it is safe to do so. People buying a replacement appliance can also consider retailer take-back schemes.
The council advises that unwanted appliances should be stored upright and securely, away from children, and should not be dismantled because refrigerant gases need to be recovered at an authorised treatment facility.
Anyone paying somebody to remove an appliance should also make sure they are using a registered waste carrier.
The council says it will continue working with Warwickshire County Council while the situation is reviewed.
