Drivers travelling through Warwickshire and the wider West Midlands are being warned to allow extra time for journeys as sections of the M42 close for HS2 works this weekend.

HS2 says a temporary full weekend closure is planned from Friday 14 August to Monday 17 August 2026. The affected sections are the M42 northbound from junction 5a to junction 9 and the southbound carriageway from junction 9 to junction 6.

The closure forms part of a programme of major motorway works connected with HS2 across North Warwickshire and Solihull.

The affected stretch includes key routes used by motorists travelling between Coventry, Birmingham Airport, the NEC, the M6 and North Warwickshire, meaning disruption may be felt across the wider area.

HS2 has advised road users to check the latest information and allow additional time for journeys. The works are subject to consent.

Further weekend closures are also listed by HS2 for later in 2026.

C&W Today will provide updates if the closure arrangements change.
