The Met Office has issued an amber warning for extreme heat covering Warwickshire and other parts of the West Midlands on Thursday 13 August 2026, valid from 09:00 to 23:59, the forecaster says. The warning covers an episode of very high temperatures that could reach 37 or even 38 Celsius in parts of the Midlands, the Met Office advises.
According to the Met Office, the heat is likely to cause adverse health effects for people vulnerable to extreme heat, and some members of the wider population may experience heat-related problems such as sunburn, dehydration or heat exhaustion. The Met Office also warns there could be some disruption to travel and infrastructure, including possible delays to road, rail and air services and potential impacts on power or other services.
The Met Office recommends practical precautions including drinking plenty of fluids, keeping out of the sun during the strongest hours (11:00–15:00), carrying water if travelling, wearing sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat, and checking travel timetables before setting out. It also advises helping vulnerable people who may need support to keep cool and stay hydrated and to ring NHS 111 if worried about health, the Met Office guidance states.
