A new summer youth hub is opening in Rugby as part of efforts to give young people more things to do during the school holidays and reduce antisocial behaviour in the town centre. Warwickshire Police says reports of youth antisocial behaviour can increase during the school holidays, with boredom, peer pressure and young people following others among the factors that can contribute. The new hub at Rugby Central Shopping Centre will provide young people with positive activities and access to support during the remainder of the summer break. The initiative has been supported by local businesses and community organisations including Rugby Borough Council, the Safe in Warwickshire Partnership, Child Friendly Warwickshire and Guiding Young Minds. Police officers will also continue regular patrols in known antisocial behaviour hotspots across the borough. When is the Rugby youth hub open? The hub is due to operate on Monday 17 August from 2pm to 4pm; Tuesday 18 August from 3pm to 6pm; Thursday 20 August from 3.30pm to 6pm; Tuesday 25 August from 3pm to 6pm; Thursday 27 August from 3pm to 6pm; Saturday 29 August from 2pm to 4pm; and Tuesday 1 September from 4pm to 6pm. Warwickshire Police says enforcement work will continue alongside the preventative initiative, including patrols in areas where antisocial behaviour is known to occur.
